When Paul uses these comparisons between the Christian life and an athletic race, it's worth remembering the wonder that we aren't competing against each other but against ourselves.

When I get to heaven, Jesus isn't going to say that I didn't do much compared with Billy Graham; Though Dr. Graham was given 10 talents, Jesus will ask what I did with the talents He gave me.

I love Jon Courson's teaching on this ... everything I do is imperfect but Jesus will burn away the impurities, the chaff in our service and will seek for the gold and precious. He wants to bless us and if there is anything that was done for Him then He will find it. Love covers a multitude of sins.

I have seen the Lord's compassion, graciousness, patience, and loving kindness in my own life many times. His great gift of salvation to me was just the beginning. As I have continued to walk with Him, He continues to amaze me with His awesome love, especially when I know I don't deserve it!
Just yesterday the Lord prompted me to enourage a boy at my child's school who had been struggling, so I did. The next day, his mother came up to me and thanked me, and said only 2 other people had encouraged her son in the past year. I couldn't believe it! I was just obeying the Lord's voice and He rewarded me! What a loving God we serve!

An update on SoCal Harvest 08 Crusade this weekend.
It was an amazing weekend at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Over three nights there were 109,000 in attendance, and even better, over 11,000 people make professions of faith in Christ!
Thank you Jesus! Because of what You did for us, all these people have entered into the Father's kingdom!

An estimated 29,000 people were present for the opening night of the 19th annual Southern California Harvest Crusade in Anaheim, Calif., including some 2,750 people who made their first-time commitments or rededicated their lives to Christ.

"But you were washed, sanctified, justified in the name of the Lord Jesus." Thank you Lord for saving us and for your wonderful gift of salvation extended to others!
Here is message written today by pastor Greg Laurie
about his thoughts and upcoming Harvest Crusades.

I wanted to thank the many of you who have contacted me with your words of comfort over the sudden departure of my dear son, Christopher, to heaven. I would ask that you continue to pray for our family.
I would also ask that you would prayerfully consider who you could bring to one of our Harvest Crusades events this year. As you know, we will be in Anaheim, Philadelphia, and New York City. Try to come and join us for one of these events, and bring someone with you that does not know the Lord. And don’t forget, all of them are webcast live and will be archived for you to watch when you desire.
Christopher Laurie - our son, Brittany’s husband, and Stella’s father - poured his heart into these events. In honor of his life - and most importantly, because Christ has commanded us to preach the gospel - let’s pray for our greatest crusades ever with thousands coming to know Christ personally and thus finding the hope of heaven my son is now experiencing first-hand.
Thank you and God bless,
Greg Laurie

Paul says that the law is a schoolmaster, intended to show us that we need a Saviour.

I remember a teaching. The story was told of the teacher in seminary and the lesson was the 10 Commandments. The professor said that everybody breaks each of the 10 commandments every day (Jesus taught that if you lust after a woman in your heart then you have commited adultery). A student replied "I have not broken the 4th commandment on Tuesday". The professor took off his glasses and answered "Six days you shall labor and do all your work" .... are there any other questions?????

In Exodus 17, the Israelites were questioning God's goodness when they complained to Moses "Why did you bring us up from Egypt, to kill us and our children?"
Here is an excerpt from a previous teaching by pastor Greg Laurie on the goodness of God. Please continue your prayers for the Laurie family. Many people have already given their lives to Jesus because of the example of Chris's life.

" Why does God allow tragedy? We've all heard it stated in many ways. Why does He allow babies to be born with disabilities? Why does He permit wars to rage? Why does He seem to turn the other way when innocent people are being killed? What about all of those horrible injustices in our world? This hurricane. That epidemic. This wildfire. Why do these horrible things afflict our world? If God can prevent such tragedies, why does He allow them to take place?

Here is the classic statement of the problem. Either God is all-powerful but He is not all good, therefore He doesn't stop evil. Or He is all good but He is not all-powerful, therefore He can't stop evil. And the general tendency is to blame all of the problems of the world on God. To say that God is the one who is somehow responsible.

"If God is so good and loving," people will say, "why does He allow evil?" Now the first part of that question is based on a false premise. By even stating it in that way, what I'm really saying is that I don't believe God to be good and loving.

By questioning God's goodness and love, I am in essence saying that I know more about it than He does. The fact is, God doesn't become good because that's my opinion of Him, or because I happen to personally agree with His actions or His words. Nor does He become good because we vote on it and all agree that is the case.

God is good because God says He is good. And it's not up for a vote.

Jesus said, "No one is good except God alone" (Luke 18:19 NIV).

The kingdom of our God does indeed lie in power, power over sin and power over death.
Christopher Laurie, son of pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship, suddenly went home to be with the Lord after a car crash July 24. Here is an exerpt from an assistant pastor at Harvest today. Please
keep pastor Greg, his wife Cathe, and Christopher's wife, Brittany, in your prayers at this difficult time.

"Mary and Martha were united with Jesus in sadness, the grief of loss. And Jesus entered into that grief."

How sweet and comforting to know our God is with us in our moments of desperation. He is the King who bears the full, blunt force of our "Lord, ifs . . . " and then sits next to us with a loving arm around our shoulder and weeps.

It is in these moments with Jesus that we come to know that the darkness only hides His face. One day, when the darkness is gone, His face will be the light of heaven.

My heart breaks for Greg and Cathe. I have come to know Jesus through Greg's faithful teaching of the Word of God. I watch and wince at every blow of grief, but I am confident there are blessings in the buffeting and grateful that Jesus is with them.

It struck me as I was reading the passages and devo for today that they both contain a promise that hasn't come true yet!

Moses tells the children of Israel "Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

Then Paul tells the Corinthians “You are already full! You are already rich!”

In a moment God will deliver Israel and not one word of what He has spoken will fall to the ground. So if I follow that line of thinking through, and because God is the same always....then I should walk in the fullness of Christ, rich in grace, abundant in mercy. Then why do I so often feel empty and thin in Spirit?

For me, it's because my eyes are on what is coming at me from behind, what has happened in the past, and it deadens the voice that's saying "Watch and see what I am going to do TODAY" Let's pray we all can focus on Him instead of us.
