Reading for today: 2 Kings 2:19-25 and Mark 16:16

“He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” Mark 16:16

Jesus tells us that if you do not believe you will not have eternal life with Him in Heaven.  Jesus died and was raised to life for this very purpose.

Reading for today: 2 Kings 2:1-18 and John 19:4

“Pilate then went out again, and said to them, ‘Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, that you may know that I find no fault in Him.’” John 19:4

Pilate found no fault in Jesus.  Even though the crowd was crying out to crucify Him, Pilate was unable to put blame to Jesus.  In the Gospel of John we see that, because Jesus was God, He was blameless in all He did.  Even after His ascension, Jesus humbled Himself in submission to the Father, proving that, as the song states, “our God is an awesome God!”  Amen.

Reading for Today: 2 Kings 1:1-18 and Romans 8:34

“Who is he who condemns?  It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.” Romans 8:34

We sometimes forget the love, grace, and mercy that was displayed by our Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross.  Easter is a great time to be reminded that God did not spare His only begotten Son and that Jesus was willing to take the full punishment for all our sins. Don’t hesitate to bring your needs and petitions before God. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:17)

Reading for today: 1 Kings 22:41-53 and 1 Timothy 6:20-21

“…he walked in all the ways of his father…” 1 Kings 22:43a & 52b

It stands out to me that two different kings “walked in all the ways of his father.”  In Deuteronomy, the children of Israel were told to teach their children as they did their daily lives.  Whether we have child or we are a mentor, we should remember we are being watched and that not only do our words teach but so do our actions.  Let us have a great influence for the Lord on our next generation.  Amen?

Reading for today: 1 Kings 22:29-40 and 1 Timothy 6:19

“…storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may
lay hold on eternal life.” 1 Timothy 6:19

I like what Paul is encouraging Timothy to teach here.  Previously Paul listed things to “treasure” as he was speaking about teaching the rich, who knew how to store up treasure.  However, now he was giving them something else, another kind of treasure to store up, which was in contrast to their material wealth.  It was actually the giving that was storing up heavenly treasures.  Eternity does not start after we die but here.  Have you made your deposit today?

Reading for today: 1 Kings 22:1-28 and 1 Timothy 6:18

“So he said to Jehoshaphat, ‘Will you go with me to fight the Ramoth Gilead?’
Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, ‘I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.’” 1 Kings 22:4

Jehoshaphat likened himself to King Ahaz.  However, in one important way he was very different in one aspect here.  He desired to know what does the Lord say?  We see later that Jehoshaphat did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.

Reading for today: 1 Kings 21:17-29 and 1 Timothy 6:17

Focus on: 1 Kings 21:19-20

Although we humble ourselves, we need to remember there are consequence to every action.  This is why grace is so good and there is no room for licentiousness.  We see in the world how both good and bad choices from generations past has had an effect today.  Let’s focus on today so that tomorrow will be okay.

In the reading for today, I had to look up the word Potentate; it means a person who possesses great power, as a sovereign, monarch, or ruler. (dictionary.com) Comparing the OT reading and the NT reading for the day, I am so glad that Jesus is not a ruler like Ahab.  AMEN!?!

Reading for today: 1 Kings 20:31-43 and 1 Timothy 6:12

Focus on: 1 Kings 20: 34 & 42

God placed Ahab as king of Israel but, he was not a good king.  He did evil in the eyes of the Lord and in verse 42 God is holding him responsible for his actions.  Our actions are motivated by what is in our heart and what we believe, either about ourselves or others.  Here we see how compromise and selfishness can have a toll not only on ourselves but others.  Ben-Hadad means son of [the false god] Hadad.  So let us continue in agreement with the Son of the True God, Jesus!

Reading for today: 1 Kings 20:1-30 and 1 Timothy 6:11

“But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith,
love, patience, gentleness.” 1 Timothy 6:11

When I read this verse I cannot help but wonder what does it mean to flee and pursue?  I remember playing “Tag” as a kid, if you were “IT” you PURSUED!  If you were not, you FLED!  It’s not passive, its active and it’s aggressive.  It wasn’t to earn anything, it was to win!  The more people you “Tagged” the more people were “IT” until the game was over.  So let’s play spiritual tag.  Now your “IT” so tag someone today with righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, or gentleness.
