Today’s reading: 1 Kings 5:1-18 and 1 Timothy 4:9-10
“King Solomon forced 30,000 men from all over Israel to work for him. He sent a shift of 10,000 men to Lebanon for a month. They would spend 1 month in Lebanon and 2 months at home.” 1 Kings 5:13-14
Work is one responsibility that no family can avoid. Though you may not always enjoy working, jobs bring opportunities and benefits you can’t live without: money, food shelter. King Solomon sought to help Israel balance their lives between the demands of work and home. He put a schedule together so they weren’t away from families too long. Are you keeping the balance between working and spending time with those you love? If not, take time to reevaluate how your job adds to or detracts from your family life.

“To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
Isn’t it awesome to know that we can trust God for balance in our lives. That He is there to help keep us on track.
Some of the verses that have deeply impacted my life have had this phrase in them.
“to the right hand or to the left” I’ve always thought, “LORD! You are soooo smart to put that in there, You know us so well.”
there’s a song that I think is just beautifully fitting and a portion of it says…
“Jesus sought me when a stranger, Wand’ring from the fold of God. He to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood. Prone to wander Lord I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love. O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be. Let they goodnes like a fetter bind my wandering heart to thee.” -song Come Thou Fount
Bind my wandering heart to thee, isn’t it true sometimes, do you ever feel like it would be easier if perhaps there was a leash of some sort that could keep us on track! LOL! But our wonderful God doesn’t treat us like that does He
My life verse Isaiah 30:21
“Your ears shall hear a voice behind you saying, “This is the way walk in it” Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.”
Joshua 1:7
“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the laws my servant Moses gave you do not turn from it to the right or to the left that you may be successful where you go.”
These verses are so encouraging because they remind me my life with God isn’t a tight rope act, one false move and SPLAT! He is with me just as He was with the Israelites by giving King Solomon the wisdom to help them to balance their work and home life. He is there! He is with us and at times ever so gently reminds us “this is the way walk in it”
He has the ability and desire to keep us balanced. We only have to hear His Word and obey.
Lord Your Word is beautiful, thank You that we can seek and find precious treasure from it. Speak to us Lord with Your still small voice and help us when our lives begin to become unbalanced in any area. Draw close to us as we draw close to You and thank You that you are and Ever Present Help! In Jesus name. Amen.
