Reading for today: 2 Samuel 11:14-27 and 1 Timothy 2:4
“…who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
1 Timothy 2:4
In today’s society, there is much information seeking to disprove God’s Word. This information forces the world to ask the question - what is truth? God tells us plainly in the Bible that Jesus is the Truth, the Way and the Life. As Christian’s we know the truth and have to show the world that there is absolute truth in Jesus. Our friends, family and co-workers should see Jesus everyday through our actions, words and deeds.

“This is good, and pleases our Savior,…” 1 Timothy 2:3
As Christians, we should do everything we can to please God. All of our works and actions are for His glory and we should give honor and praise. In our home, we teach our children to let others see Jesus through them by showing kindness, humility, honesty and humbleness. These should be teachings for everyone to practice to please God. However, nothing pleases God as much as when we turn our hearts to Jesus and do His will.

Reading for today: 2 Samuel 11:1-5 and 1 Timothy 2:2
“…for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all
godliness and holiness.” 1 Timothy 2:2
Many places in scripture, as above, states that we are instructed to pray for our leaders and government. Even if we do not agree with the policies and decisions that are made, God counsels us to pray for those who are in charge. We must remember that it is God who allows these leaders to be put in a position of power.

Reading for today: 2 Samuel 10:1-19 and 1 Timothy 2:1
“Be strong and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God.
The Lord will do what is good in His sight.” 2 Samuel 10:12
In our lives there are many battles that we must face. God calls us to fight those battles knowing that the outcome is up to Him. As Joab said, “Let us fight bravely,” so we also should have that same attitude. We need to approach our issues and problems using our God given abilities and talents knowing whatever the end result will be is up to our Lord.

“…which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck…”
1 Timothy 1:19
Hymenaeus and Alexander had blasphemed God by misleading the people concerning the faith. Thus, their actions and comments proved to have a disastrous effect. When I think of being shipwrecked, I think of abandonment and loneliness. It appears that Hymenaeus and Alexander may have experienced some time separated from God due to their sin. Not a place I’d like to be!

“And the Lord preserved David wherever he went.”
2 Samuel 8:14b
The Lord certainly had His hand upon David, giving him victory after victory. The word ‘preserved’ in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary means to keep safe, guard and protect. When we are in right standing with God, we can be sure that He will also do the same for us.

Reading for today: 2 Samuel 7:18-29 and 1 Timothy 1:17
“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”
1 Timothy 1:17
Paul, writing to Timothy, expresses a similar devotion to that expressed by David in 2 Samuel 7:22. In Deuteronomy 10:17, Moses also acknowledges the greatness of his God. In Revelation 19:6, John tells of a great multitude saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” As the song goes, “All will see how GREAT is our God!”

Focus on: 2 Samuel 7:3-13
David’s heart and desire was in the right place. However, his plan to build a resting place for the Ark of God was not God’s plan. Through David God would build the royal dynasty. “I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy loins, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.” (2 Samuel 7:12b-13) Unbeknownst to David, the Messiah would be a part of that dynasty.

Reading for today: 2 Samuel 6:1-23 and 1 Timothy 1:15
“This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into
the world to save sinners…” 1 Timothy 1:15
Jesus was on a “divine mission.” He was sent by God into this world to save us from our sins. Jesus came to seek and to save those who are lost. When we acknowledge this truth, and accept Christ’ work on the cross, our salvation is secure and we WILL be with Christ for all eternity. He is the way, the truth and the light. God’s Word will not return void.

Reading for today: 2 Samuel 5:17-25 and 1 Timothy 1:14
“And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant…”
1 Timothy 1:14a
God’s grace is sufficient. It surpasses any kind of favor we can obtain. It is more than enough. Great is God’s faithfulness and love towards us. His mercy never ends. It is new each and every day.
