Reading for today: Exodus 34:1-9, I Corinthians 9:17-19
“Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed ‘The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth.’” Exodus 34:6
Here the Lord describes Himself as “abounding in lovingkindness,” overflowing with steadfast love for his children. The word for “truth” can also be translated “faithfulness.” Our God is not a rigid, judgmental parent who watches from a distance, but He is a merciful, loving, and gracious Father who draws His children close to Him and calls them by name (John 10:3).

I have seen the Lord’s compassion, graciousness, patience, and loving kindness in my own life many times. His great gift of salvation to me was just the beginning. As I have continued to walk with Him, He continues to amaze me with His awesome love, especially when I know I don’t deserve it!
Just yesterday the Lord prompted me to enourage a boy at my child’s school who had been struggling, so I did. The next day, his mother came up to me and thanked me, and said only 2 other people had encouraged her son in the past year. I couldn’t believe it! I was just obeying the Lord’s voice and He rewarded me! What a loving God we serve!
