Reading for today: Genesis 9:1-3 and Matthew 10:16-26

————————-

“The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky;”
Genesis 9:2

This is an encouraging verse to remember while in a season of fear or anxiety. Remembering that the Lord Himself gave fear to every other creature except for man. Fear is not of the Lord, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

2 Tim 1:7 How awesome is it when we can surrender our fears and anxiety over to the Lord to handle for us.

I think the answer lies in intimacy. The more I know God, the more I will fear Him and nothing else. I don’t believe it’s possible to draw closer to God in true worship and intimacy and not grow in your fear of Him, and in-turn alway from the fear of anything else. Of course when I use the word fear I don’t mean paranoia or terror. I mean it in the Biblical sense; a feeling of awe, being overwhelmed by His perfection, marveling at His power and majesty, being humble before the magnificent creator of the universe who loves me and is in complete control of my life if yeilded it over to Him.

As that happens, my desires will change. Instead of being entertained by worldly influences, I will be repulsed by them. Instead of watching trash on TV I will find it repugnant. Instead of enjoying the latest gossip it will burn my ears and break my heart.

As I grow closer to God, I will automatically be drawn away from that which does not reflect His character. And that is true holiness. And THAT is what I desire…

    Be Captivated~
