“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1
This first verse helps us put the rest of the Bible into proper perspective. No one can believe these words because they logically or scientifically reasoned through them. And no human was an eye witness of these events (see what God told Job in Job 38:4). A person accepts these words only by faith (Hebrew 11:3).
Here too the Bible immediately sets itself apart from all other religions. These first words declare that atheism is false because “God is;” pantheism is false because God is independent of His creation; polytheism is false because there is only one God; humanism is false because God is the ultimate reality; and materialism is false because matter had a beginning and it all belongs to God.
The first words of the Bible remind us that there is no being like God, and nothing worthy of our worship like Him.

Welcome to the Horizon Christian Fellowship Fitchburg Daily Devotionals blog.
The daily devotionals are written by members of Horizon Fitchburg and will match the weekly messages and the scriptures for the 5 year through-the-Bible study. Here you’ll be able to ask questions and comment on the devotionas as well as the related activities at the church.
You can get the Daily Devotionals either in the church bulletins, here on the website, in email or through an RSS reader.
The email subscription works a little bit differently than traditional blog email subscriptions. First, visit the subscription page at http://horizonfitchburg.org/devotionals and enter your email address. Unlike traditional blogs, you will only receive the daily devotional blog posts. If there are other posts, they will not be automatically sent.
The RSS links are at the lower right side of this page. An RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feed allows a reader such as Yahoo or Google to aggregate various blogs or news sources. For instance, I have an RSS feed from the Fitchburg Sentinel and Enterprise that posts short snippets of news stories to my Outlook email. The RSS tool is an Outlook add-in called “RSS Popper”.
For now, the Horizon Fitchburg blog limits comments to church members and visitors. The passphrase needed to post a comment is provided weekly in the church bulletin.
If you have any questions about the devotionals, you can enter a comment here or post a question on the Contact Us page and send it to “Devotionals”.
God Bless,
- Matt
